Goods shipped to the bulk port help build roads, heat Stockholmers’ homes, and supply industry and businesses with materials. A large share of the vessels calling at the port—around 100 per year—carry pellets and biofuels such as wood chips and waste-derived fuel to heating plants in the Stockholm region. The ships come from all over Europe, including England, France, Norway, and the Baltics, making it possible to replace long-distance truck transport with more sustainable shipping.
